Breast Lift With Implants

A breast lift combined with augmentation can help women achieve two complementary goals: restoring an uplifted, youthful breast position while increasing volume and fullness. For his patients from Frisco and Plano, Texas, Dr. Geo Tabbal, our board-certified plastic surgeon, often performs both the lift and the augmentation in a single surgery.

The conversation about your breast enhancement begins when you request a consultation with Dr. Geo Tabbal to discuss your options. You may also call our practice at (469) 336-6835 to schedule an appointment.

What Is a Breast Lift with Implants?

Performed independently, a breast lift (also called mastopexy) restores sagging or droopy breast tissue while correcting the position of the areola and nipple; a breast augmentation adds volume through the insertion of implants. For women looking to correct the deflation and descent brought on by gravity, childbirth, breastfeeding and other factors of normal life, a combined augmentation-mastopexy may be recommended.

During your consultation, Dr. Tabbal will perform a thorough examination, confirming your eligibility for a combined procedure, and explain what’s possible. Together, you and Dr. Tabbal will then develop a surgical plan, taking time to consider all of your breast implant options and the best way to place your implants. Dr. Tabbal will also explain the technique he will use to achieve the lift, including the incision that will be used, which depends on the degree of sagging or drooping in your breast tissue.

What Are the Benefits of Combining a Breast Lift with Implants?

Some of the potential benefits associated with a combined breast lift and breast augmentation procedure include:

  • Enhanced Shape and Volume: The simultaneous lifting of sagging breasts with the addition of breast volume can result in a fuller appearance as well as a more youthful shape and projection.
  • Improved Symmetry: This procedure can help correct asymmetries between the breasts for a more balanced look.
  • Long-Lasting Results: Augmentation-mastopexy can provide enduring results that last many years into the future as long as patients maintain a healthy lifestyle and take steps to protect their skin.
  • Boosted Confidence: This treatment can significantly improve self-esteem and body image among patients who have concerns about the aesthetics of their breasts.
  • Versatile Options: The procedure can be customized with a range of options in terms of implant type, size, and shape to meet individual preferences and needs.

Who Is a Candidate for a Breast Lift with Implants?

Ideal candidates for a breast lift with implants procedure are generally those who desire an elevated breast position and a fuller breast appearance. Individuals who consider this procedure are often affected by excess breast skin, breast ptosis (sagging), and loss of breast volume after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, or the natural aging process. Additionally, some candidates may be experiencing breast asymmetry that they wish to balance and correct.

Candidates for a breast lift with implants procedure should be in relatively good health with a realistic expectation of surgery outcomes. Ideally, patients should have completed their families by the time they undergo this procedure, as pregnancy and breastfeeding can alter the results from a breast lift with implants. Additionally, candidates should not smoke, as smoking can negatively impact the healing process and increase the risk of complications.

During the consultation process, Dr. Tabbal can evaluate your aesthetic needs and goals to help determine procedure candidacy.

Dr. Tabbal’s Take: Single Surgery Vs. “Staging” Procedures

As you research different surgeons and their approaches to combining these two procedures, you will likely see a difference of opinion emerge. Some surgeons prefer to “stage” your surgery in two procedures to minimize risk; others prefer to perform both in a single surgery.

Dr. Tabbal’s preference is for the latter (i.e., augmentation and mastopexy in one surgery). In his view, it’s best to accomplish everything at once whenever possible, adding a second procedure as a follow-up only when necessary — rather than immediately consigning every patient to two surgeries and two recovery periods.

For the majority of patients, combining everything can work well. In some cases, though, Dr. Tabbal may examine you and determine that a staged procedure is the best option for the results you want.

How Is a Breast Lift with Implants Procedure Performed?

A breast lift with implants procedure is typically performed as an outpatient under general anesthesia. As Dr. Tabbal believes a single surgery approach is best, he will most likely perform both a lift and augmentation in the same operation. As noted above, in some situations, he may assess that staging it into two surgeries is best.
An incision will be made in the previously decided area, whether that’s along the breast crease where the underside of the breast meets the chest (inframammary fold) or in the areolar areas on down to the breast crease. The breast tissue will then be lifted and reshaped to improve breast projection and firmness. Excess breast skin can also be removed and the remaining skin will be tightened. Then, the chosen breast implants will be delicately and precisely placed before the incisions are properly closed.

What Is Recovery Like After a Breast Lift with Implants?

After surgery, it’s wise to schedule at least one week off of work. You will leave in the care of your designated family or friends, and you will spend the first few days resting.

Dr. Tabbal will give you a schedule for follow-up visits before you leave. Those visits are the time for Dr. Tabbal to check on your progress; however, frequent communication between you and Dr. Tabbal will allow him to answer any questions that may arise.

Especially with a combined procedure, it’s important to remember that your breast tissue will have some swelling. Your breasts and underlying implants may appear a touch higher than anticipated; however, this is to be expected. Your implants will gradually settle as your tissues relax and adapt to the increased volume and your “new” breast shape.

What Is the Cost of a Breast Lift with Implants?

The cost of a breast lift with implants can vary from patient to patient. There are multiple factors that can contribute to the overall price, including the type of breast implants chosen, the incision technique that is utilized, anesthesia fees, fees for post-operative garments, and other associated costs.
