Eyelid Surgery
Dr. Geo Tabbal sees women and men from Plano and Frisco, Texas seeking eyelid surgery to correct sagging skin and bags around the eyelids. These patients invariably say they look tired, upset, and run-down — when they feel quite the opposite. Dr. Tabbal, our board-certified plastic surgeon, performs eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) to undo that disjointed feeling between what patients see in the mirror and what they know to be true inside.
If you’ve been accused of always looking tired, Dr. Tabbal can help. Request a consultation to talk through your options, or call the practice at (214) 618-3006 to schedule your appointment.
What Is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery can be considered a cosmetic or medical procedure, depending on the nature of the concerns being addressed. This surgery is designed to improve the appearance of the eyelids and can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids, or both. Blepharoplasty is commonly performed to improve issues such as drooping eyelids, puffiness, under-eye bags, and wrinkles, often resulting in a rejuvenated and youthful appearance. For some individuals, eyelid surgery can also improve vision by removing excess, overhanging skin that obscures the eyes. This procedure involves the removal or repositioning of fat, along with the excision of excess skin and muscle, followed by tightening and smoothing the remaining skin to address each patient’s unique concerns.
What Are the Benefits of Eyelid Surgery?
Top advantages offered by eyelid surgery include:
- A More Youthful, Rested Appearance: Reduces wrinkles, drooping, and puffiness around the eyes, creating a more rejuvenated look.
- Reduced Eye Bags: Minimizes under-eye bags and dark circles, enhancing overall facial aesthetics.
- Improved Vision: Removes excess upper eyelid skin that may impair vision.
- Long-Lasting Results: Offers results that can last for many years, reducing the need for frequent cosmetic treatments.
- Boosted Confidence: Enhances self-esteem and confidence by aligning your appearance more closely with how you feel inside.
- Minimal Scars: Incisions are typically concealed in the natural creases of the eyelids, often leading to subtle, virtually unnoticeable scarring.
Who Is a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
The eyes are the windows to our souls — and when the surrounding skin and tissue becomes puffy, wrinkled, or droopy, it can send a false impression that your energy and vibrancy have faded. The best candidates for eyelid surgery have excess skin and fat that can easily be removed, with good skin elasticity.
With the upper eyelid, there is also a functional component that can be of concern. Severe sagging of the skin can begin to impede your vision — and if this is the case for you, there is a chance that insurance will cover some or all of your surgery costs. During the consultation process, Dr. Tabbal can determine candidacy and discuss procedure details to help decide whether blepharoplasty can properly address your specific needs and aesthetic goals.
What Is Recovery Like Following Eyelid Surgery?
Recovery following eyelid surgery typically involves some swelling and bruising, which usually subsides within a couple of weeks. Patients may experience dry eyes or light sensitivity and may be advised to wear sunglasses and avoid strenuous activities during the initial recovery period. Cold compresses can help reduce swelling, and lubricating eye drops may be recommended to alleviate discomfort. Most people can return to work and normal activities within a week or two. Stitches are either dissolvable or removed after about a week. Dr. Tabbal will provide detailed post-operative instructions that can help promote a safe and smooth healing process.
