Non-Surgical Procedures
Many patients who are looking for facial rejuvenation beyond what at-home remedies can provide may not be ready for surgical enhancements. On the other hand, some may use non-surgical treatments to complement the results of their surgical procedures. Board-certified plastic surgeon Geo N. Tabbal, M.D. provides a range of effective non-surgical options performed at his office, often during the same day of consultation if desired.
Dr. Tabbal personally examines every patient and looks forward to answering any additional questions you may have.
Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators produce results over the course of 3 to 10 days, and outcomes typically last 4 to 6 months; however, experiences may vary depending on the specific product and area injected, as well as individual factors. The term “neuromodulator” typically indicates an injectable solution that includes ingredients capable of temporarily preventing muscle contractions in dynamic areas of the face. These muscle contractions are often responsible for the formation of wrinkles and fine lines in specific areas, and neuromodulators can diminish signs of those concerns.
Dr. Tabbal offers three of the most popular neuromodulator injectables, including:
BOTOX® Cosmetic
BOTOX® Cosmetic focuses primarily on the “dynamic wrinkles” that result from repeated facial expressions. This makes it uniquely effective for smoothing out areas such as the forehead, glabella (the area between the eyebrows), crow’s feet, and bunny lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic is also FDA-approved for treating hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
Dysport®
Another neuromodulator, Dysport® contains the same active ingredient found in BOTOX® Cosmetic and is often particularly beneficial for reducing the appearance of frown lines. Additionally, this injectable can soften wrinkles in other facial regions, including around the eyes, nose, and mouth.
XEOMIN®
XEOMIN® contains the same active ingredient as BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®, and can also address frown lines like the latter. By treating those moderate to severe signs of aging, XEOMIN® can provide a refreshed appearance.
Dermal Fillers
With dermal fillers, the goal is to fill in folds and sunken areas of the face by adding volume. Results are often instant and, depending on the filler used, can last from six months to two years.
JUVÉDERM®
Common target areas for JUVÉDERM® injectables include the cheeks, lips, chin, and areas with prominent skin wrinkles or folds. JUVÉDERM® products include VOLUMA®, VOLLURE®, VOLBELLA®, Ultra Plus®, and Ultra Plus XC®, all containing hyaluronic acid, a substance that is natural to the human body. Depending on the specific product used, volume that has been lost with age in areas such as the cheeks and the lips can be restored. Similarly, wrinkles and facial folds can also be improved with the use of one of these products.
Restylane®
Another hyaluronic acid-based injectable, Restylane® addresses lost facial volume and creases in the mid to lower face region. Thin lips can also be enhanced with Restylane® by adding fullness and refining lip contours.
RADIESSE®
RADIESSE® is a calcium-based filler that is often used for facial and hand rejuvenation. FDA-approved and sometimes used in a “liquid facelift”, RADIESSE® can help correct signs of aging such as volume loss and moderate to severe facial folds.
KYBELLA®
For patients with unwanted chin fat (what we often call a “double chin”), KYBELLA® injections use a chemical called deoxycholic acid to dissolve fat cells and create a slimmer contour. Deoxycholic acid occurs naturally in the body, where it aids in the breakdown of ingested fats. As the treated fat cells dissolve and die, the body should gradually remove them, creating results that improve over the course of several weeks.
Most patients will need a series of sessions for the best results. KYBELLA® patients also need to have good skin elasticity under the neck where this improved facial contour is desired. If the skin is too loose, a neck lift is likely the best path for an effective result.
While experiences vary, KYBELLA® results typically take several weeks to emerge as the body breaks down and flushes away the fat cells. Many individuals see the best results from a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart.
Chemical Peels
For a dramatic improvement in skin tone and texture, patients can undergo a trichloroacetic acid-based chemical peel (TCA). The treatment causes the top layers of skin to dry out and peel away, revealing new and regenerated skin. A chemical peel can reduce signs of fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, uneven skin tone, freckles, and even minor scars.
In some cases, Dr. Tabbal may recommend that patients complete a pre-treatment regimen of topical creams at home for the most transformative results.
The time between treatment and final results depends on the strength of the peel Dr. Tabbal applies.
